Summer Program 2024
Every year, CMC runs an awesome summer program for kids who love puzzles, board games, and fun, challenging math. Our activities help students develop creative problem solving skills, meet other children who love math, and get excited about future careers in STEAM.
Our 2024 summer program is over, but feel free to browse this page to learn more about what CMC summer programming looks like!
The program runs from 9AM to 2PM, Monday through Friday. We also offer an optional extended day service for parents who cannot pick up their children at 2PM. The extended day runs until 5:15PM.

WHO: Students entering grades 3-8 in Fall 2024. We also have a counselor-in-training (CIT) program for rising 9th graders. Sometimes, we also admit very advanced rising 2nd graders. Email us at info@cambridgemathcircle.org if you'd like us to consider your rising 2nd grader. We reserve the right to deny admission to any rising 2nd grader for any reason.

WHAT: Our summer program features a variety of fun, STEAM-related activities including building challenges, number games, logic puzzles, and activities with our phenomenal guest instructors (many of whom are musicians, artists, architects, mathematicians, physicists, or engineers). Activities reflect the weekly theme (listed above). Click here for more information about each week's activities.

COST: $600 per week plus our $30 application fee (applied per student per summer), with the option for an extended day until 5:15PM for an additional $150 per week per child. We offer need-based financial aid to low-income families, with priority given to families from Cambridge and Somerville—although everyone is welcome to apply. The application fee is waived for all families on financial aid, regardless of the amount of aid they receive.

EVALUATIONS POLICY: If your child is a rising 2nd grader, they must first undergo an evaluation before they can be admitted to our summer program. To schedule your evaluation, simply fill out our application and wait for a CMC staff member to contact you. You may also email us at classes@cambridgemathcircle.org to schedule the evaluation before you fill out the application.

HOW TO APPLY: We are no longer accepting applications for Summer 2024, but we are admitting students for Fall 2024!

Logic, Music, & Art (Week 0)
Logic, Robots, & Secret Codes (Weeks 1 and 4)
Week 0 provides a preview of this summer's themes: logic, music, and art. This week, students will learn about mathematical patterns and codes and explore how math intersects with art and music by studying polyrhythms and making music with a professional drummer. Guest instructors include a Harvard dark matter physicist, a professional musician, and more.
Weeks 1 and 4 explore logic, robots, and secret codes. Students will learn about artificial intelligence, play logic games, and build model robots of their very own! Guests include (but are not limited to) members of the Harvard Robotics Lab, a robotic dog, and an engineer from MIT. At the end of the week, students will face off in a robot design competition!
Math & Music (Weeks 2 and 5)
Math & Art (Weeks 3 and 6)
During Weeks 2 and 5, students will explore the intersections between math and music by breaking down and creating musical codes, putting on a concert with our CMC teachers, and studying the physics of sound. Guests are professional musicians, an MIT engineering professor, and more.
Weeks 3 and 6 focus on the overlap between math and art. Students will use mathematical principles to make their own art projects, look for repeating patterns and geometry in art, and participate in building challenges. Special guests include local artists, professors, and musicians.
